In the lush forests of Tamil Nadu, a tiny elephant calf, initially rejected by its mother, found itself alone and lost in the wilderness. But this tale of heartbreak soon turned into one of hope and warmth. Rescued by kind-hearted caregivers, the precious baby jumbo was brought to an elephant feeding camp.
Acting promptly, a team of forest officials lifted the mother with the help of a crane and provided her with three days of intensive treatment. After her health improved, she was released back into the forest.
“Forest department staff rushed to the spot to provide treatment to the mother elephant on May 31 and lifted her with the help of a crane. The baby, unable to receive milk, wandered into the forest,” forest veterinarian Dr. Sukumar explained.
Supriya Sahu, Additonal Chief Secretary of Environment, Climate Change & Forests, Govt of Tamil Nadu, shared on social media, “A feeling beyond words as we warmly embrace a 3-month-old baby elephant in our care who has been abandoned by his mother.”
Sahu explained that, according to experts, such events do occur in the wild for unexplainable reasons.
